Reconciling all things is not saving all beings

Some read this verse as though rebel spiritual beings will one day be forgiven. Read alongside 1:16 and 2:15, that is not what Paul means.
Reconciliation here is the restoration of creation's order and authority, and the installing of Christ in his place of rule. It is not an offer of salvation to the heavenly host. Their claim over human affairs is corrected, and their authority is now illegitimate.

The cross did not negotiate with the powers. It put the world back under its rightful King.
