Unseen Realm 17: Two Powers In Heaven

The Old Testament points to two distinct, divine figures sharing the throne of heaven. In Daniel 7:13-14, one "like a son of man" comes before the Ancient of Days and receives everlasting dominion, glory, and a kingdom - a second enthroned figure alongside God himself. Psalm 110:1 pictures the same pattern: "The LORD says to my Lord: Sit at my right hand." Jesus applied both texts to himself before the high priest (Matthew 26:64), identifying himself as this enthroned figure. John 1:1-18 adds a further thread: the eternal Word was "with God" and "was God," then "became flesh" - the same pattern of a distinct-yet-divine figure, now identified as Jesus.
This matters because it means the New Testament's high view of Christ isn't an invention - it's the fulfillment of a pattern the Old Testament already laid down: a second divine figure, enthroned with God, now revealed as Jesus.
