Unseen Realm 21: Cross Cosmic Conquest

Colossians 2:14-15 describes the cross in the language of a Roman military triumph: Christ "disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him." The "rulers and authorities" aren't human governments - Paul means the same supernatural powers referenced throughout his letters, the territorial powers given authority over the nations. The cross stripped them of legitimate claim, publicly, the way a conquering general paraded defeated enemy commanders through the streets in chains. First Corinthians 2:8 adds the irony: "none of the rulers of this age understood" what crucifying Jesus would actually accomplish - they secured their own defeat.
This matters because the cross wasn't only about your forgiveness - it was a real, cosmic defeat of the powers that held the world in their grip.
