Body - Temple Holiness

"Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you... You were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body," as 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 declares. This means that your physical body is not your own in an ultimate sense; rather, it has been acquired by God and is now a dwelling place for His Spirit. To be a temple signifies a sacred space, set apart for divine presence and purpose.
The Bible teaches that sexual holiness is intrinsically linked to this truth of belonging to the Lord, who has redeemed and claimed your body. The Apostle Paul, in 1 Corinthians 6:12-20, emphasizes that the body is intended "for the Lord" and is an integral part of Christ's body. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit resides within you, making your body His temple. This principle of avoiding sexual immorality was so vital that it was a core instruction for Gentile believers in Acts 15. The ancient scriptures, such as the book of Leviticus, reveal that sexual disorder was understood not merely as a personal failing but as a defilement that impacted the entire community and violated the covenant relationship with God.
Therefore, your pursuit of holiness is not about despising your physical body, but rather about embodying your allegiance to the Lord who has purchased you. It is a conscious, physical expression of your devotion to the God who bought His people and graciously indwells them with His Spirit. Recognizing your body as Christ's member and the Spirit’s temple transforms your understanding of personal conduct, empowering you to live in a way that honors and glorifies God with your whole being.
