Paul's Mission to Tarshish: Reversing Babel's Disinheritance

Paul keeps mentioning Spain. Twice in one chapter he tells the Romans he intends to go there. It reads like an itinerary. It is a theology.
In the Table of Nations, Spain is Tarshish - the westernmost point of the known world. Isaiah 66 sends survivors out to the distant coastlands, to nations who have not heard God's fame or seen his glory, and Tarshish is on that list.
So when Paul aims at Spain, he is not choosing a promising mission field. He is heading for the far edge of the map Babel drew. The nations disinherited there are being reclaimed, and Paul means to reach the last of them.
