Walking with God: The Prophet's Hallmark

The biblical phrase "walked with God," used to describe figures like Enoch (Genesis 5:22, 24) and Noah (Genesis 6:9), signifies a profound and intimate relationship with the divine. This is not merely a figurative expression but denotes a direct, personal encounter with God's presence, indicating a deep spiritual communion and ongoing fellowship.
This direct communion was the very foundation of their prophetic calling. Enoch’s unique relationship with God led both ancient Jewish traditions and the New Testament, in Jude 14-15, to acknowledge him as a prophet. He delivered God's message, specifically proclaiming judgment, as highlighted by "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, to execute judgment on all..." Noah similarly served as God's mouthpiece, warning his generation about the impending flood. Their continuous "walking with God" established their credibility and legitimacy as divine spokespersons, demonstrating that their messages came directly from God Himself.
For us as believers today, these early examples show that authentic ministry and effective witness are rooted in a personal and direct relationship with God. While the precise nature of our encounters may differ from those of Enoch and Noah, the fundamental principle remains constant: a credible testimony for God and the ability to articulate His truth flow from a close, personal relationship with Him, characterized by attentive listening to His voice. This foundational connection validates our understanding and communication of God's message to the world around us.
