Journey to Eden: Tracing God's Original Design

Genesis pauses to tell you where Eden's rivers went, and the detail is doing theological work.
Four rivers flow out of Eden in four directions. Eden is the cosmic source, the original centre. And the list itself proves something people often miss: this description alone tells us quite clearly the earth was not Eden. The garden was a distinct sacred space, to be extended outward, not the whole world.
One of those rivers, the Gihon, later names the spring at Jerusalem - and the connection between the Gihon of Eden and of Jerusalem is not fuzzy thinking. It is how the Bible ties its sacred spaces together.
