Giants and Uncleanness: The Root of Evil Spirits

The scripture from Genesis 6:4 states, "The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man..." This verse refers to a specific group known as the Nephilim, indicating their presence on earth. The implication is that these beings were a result of an interaction between "sons of God" and "daughters of man."
According to ancient tradition, specifically as described in 1 Enoch 7:2-5, the offspring from these unions were described as "great giants" who caused immense destruction, consuming humanity and all of creation. This devastating impact led to the earth itself bringing an accusation against these "lawless ones." This understanding of their origins and actions forms the basis for their nature.
This traditional perspective explains why, in the Second Temple period and the New Testament, these giants' disembodied spirits were considered the source of "unclean spirits" or demons. Their very existence was an unnatural mixture of heavenly and earthly realms, making them anomalous and thus "unclean," much like ritually impure things. This framework suggests that spiritual oppression and all forms of evil ultimately originate from a direct rebellion against God's established order and His standards of purity, offering a clearer understanding of the spiritual conflict portrayed in the Bible.
