God's New Covenant: Internal Transformation

The new covenant is not a softer deal. It is an internal one.
Jeremiah says God will put his law within them and write it on their hearts. Ezekiel says the same thing in surgical language - a heart of stone removed, a heart of flesh given, and God's own Spirit placed within.
That is the difference. Under the old arrangement, belonging to the nation did not guarantee a changed heart. Under the new one, everyone who belongs has the Spirit, and the obedience comes from inside rather than being pressed on from outside.
And it is inaugurated, not finished. Pentecost begins it. The full version has not arrived yet.
