Nephilim: Giants with Supernatural Origins

When Jewish scholars translated Genesis into Greek, two centuries before Christ, they had to decide what nephilim meant. They chose gigantes - giants - and they chose it consistently, without variation.
They made the same call for gibborim, the mighty men of Genesis 6:4. Both words came into Greek as giants.
That tells you how the term was understood long before any modern argument about it. And it is worth noting that the competing explanations of where the Nephilim came from both still require something supernatural. They disagree about the mechanism, not about whether the ordinary world produced them.
