Overcoming for Authority and the Morning Star

Jesus promises the one who overcomes authority over the nations, and then adds something stranger: and I will give him the morning star.
The morning star is Jesus' own title - he claims it himself in the last chapter of Revelation. So the promise is not a trinket. It is a share in what belongs to him.
The nations half comes from Psalm 2, where the Son asks and receives the nations as his inheritance. Read with Deuteronomy 32 behind it, that is the reversal of Babel - the gods given the nations are displaced, the Son inherits them, and he shares the inheritance with those who overcome.
