Jerusalem: God's Chosen Earthly Center

Jerusalem is not the centre of the earth geographically, and everybody in the ancient world knew it. It is the centre theologically, and that is a claim, not a measurement.
Jewish writers said so plainly. 1 Enoch describes travelling to the centre of the earth and finding a blessed place with trees and a holy mountain. Jubilees puts Zion in the midst of the navel of the earth. The library states the conclusion: Jerusalem is viewed in biblical thinking as the centre of the earth, the navel of the earth.
Psalm 132 adds the note of permanence, with the holy place as God's resting place - the temple as the completion of creation's rest.
