To the one who conquers, Jesus promises hidden manna.
Manna itself was the wilderness food - bread from heaven, gathered daily. A jar of it was placed before the Lord, kept in the ark as a memorial of provision. Hidden is the word that turns the promise: the manna reserved and set aside.
The sources read it as eternal life held in reserve - hidden in the sense that it was reserved only for those who had believed to the end. Not a prize for effort. A portion kept for those who stay.
