Gog and Magog: Who Are They?

Gog, Magog, Meshech, Tubal, Togarmah. Prophecy books have spent a century turning those names into modern nations, usually Russia. The names are Anatolian - in what is now Turkey - and they are identifiable from Assyrian and Hittite records.
Meshech appears as Mushku in neo-Assyrian sources, in central Anatolia. Rosh, often read as Russia, is not a place name at all.
And Gog himself has never been pinned down. Every attempt to match him to a known historical king has failed. That is part of the point: this is not a threat you can locate on a map.
