Enoch's Unique Connection to Divine Wisdom

Jude quotes Enoch. Not a lost Old Testament saying - the book of Enoch, at chapter 1 verse 9, and he calls Enoch a prophet when he does it.
That tells you the standing Enoch had. In the literature, Enoch alone is given secret divine knowledge that applies to all people and the cosmos, knowledge that goes beyond what Moses received. He is the man who walked with God and was taken, and what he brings back is understanding.
There is a further turn. In 1 Enoch, Enoch himself is called the Son of Man - the title Daniel 7 supplies and the Gospels apply to Jesus.

Jude was comfortable quoting a book he did not treat as Scripture. That is worth noticing before anyone panics about it.
