Divine Protection in the Wilderness: Echoes of Exodus

The woman in Revelation 12 is given the two wings of a great eagle and carried into the wilderness. That is not a new image.
It is a reference back to Exodus 19, where God tells Israel he bore them on eagles' wings and brought them to himself. Deuteronomy 32 deepens the same picture - God as the eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young.
So Revelation describes the preservation of God's people in the same terms as Israel's rescue from Egypt. Wilderness, in that framework, is not abandonment. It is where God carries his people and keeps them.
