Babel's Judgment: Nations Allotted to Other Gods

Genesis 11 tells you what happened at Babel. Deuteronomy 32 tells you what it meant.
When the Most High divided humanity, he fixed the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God. The nations were not simply scattered - they were handed over. Each was allotted to a lesser divine being, and Yahweh kept one portion for himself: Jacob.
That is why the Old Testament can speak of the nations as belonging to other gods, and why the gospel reaching the nations is not a change of plan but a reclamation.
Deuteronomy 4 runs the same allotment vocabulary in another direction - there it is the sun, moon and stars allotted to the peoples. Keep the two passages distinct. They are related, but they are not saying the same thing.
