Yahweh: King Over Cosmic Chaos

Psalm 74 remembers God dividing the sea and crushing the heads of Leviathan. That imagery was current right across the ancient Near East - the storm god defeating the chaos monster - and Israel's poets used it.
Used, not borrowed wholesale. The sources are careful here: similarity is not proof of derivation, and pressing the parallels into a theory of borrowing overreaches the data.
What Israel does with the imagery is the point. Yahweh is the one who puts the sea under restraint. Not a victor among rivals, but the one who set the limits in the first place.
