Armageddon: Not Megiddo, But Zion

Revelation names the final battlefield Har-Magedon, and almost everyone hears Megiddo. The problem is in the word itself. Har means mountain. Megiddo is not a mountain.
Zechariah 12, the passage usually brought in to support the Megiddo reading, says so outright - it calls Megiddo a plain. The place Scripture actually stages the last conflict is the mountain God claims as his own: Jerusalem, Mount Zion.
That changes the picture entirely. The final battle is not a military engagement on a convenient piece of flat ground in northern Israel. It is a contest over the mountain where God dwells.
