Adam: The First Prophet in God's Council

Adam, the first human created by God, held a unique prophetic role as one who spoke for God. He was intimately connected to God's presence in Eden, a place understood as Yahweh's dwelling and the meeting place of His divine council. Though asked rhetorically in Job 15:7–8, the question "Were you born before Adam? Or were you brought forth before the hills? Have you listened in the council of God?" implies the understanding that Adam had a unique access, making him a prophetic figure representing the divine will to the created order.
The concept of "walking" with God, as described in Genesis 3:8 when Yahweh was present with Adam and Eve, signifies an active, relational presence. That same "walking" language shows up again later describing God's active presence inside the tabernacle — one more thread tying Eden to the tabernacle and to the mountain-top meeting places where God is pictured holding court with his council. This connection indicates that humanity's original design included participation in this divine family and a ruling council, with Adam serving as the initial human partaker in this profound relationship and responsibility.
This understanding of Adam's prophetic status brings into focus humanity's original purpose: to reflect God's image and to act as His authoritative representatives on earth. This fundamental design was profoundly disrupted by the Fall, resulting in a loss of that intimate connection and representative authority. Yet, it also underscores God's persistent work throughout history to restore humanity to this intended role as authorized spokespeople and co-regents, actively participating in His plan for creation, reflecting the divine glory, and stewarding the earth according to His design, just as referenced in the creative mandate of Genesis 1:26.
