The statement that "Eden is sacred space, not just scenery" reveals that the Garden of Eden was much more than merely a beautiful landscape. This instruction to "work it and keep it" uses language that, in later biblical contexts, characterizes priestly service and guarding a holy sanctuary, underscoring Eden's sacred nature from its very beginning.
This understanding of Eden as sacred space is reinforced by prophetic and apocalyptic visions. Ezekiel 28:13-14 describes Eden with imagery of a "holy mountain" and an "anointed guardian cherub," directly linking it to divine presence and protection, much like a temple. Ultimately, the Bible’s narrative culminates in Revelation 22:1-5, which restores and expands upon Edenic themes. This future vision includes "The river of the water of life," "the tree of life," "The throne of God and of the Lamb," and restored "servants [who] will worship him" and "will see his face." This prophetic imagery echoes the original Garden, confirming its foundational role as a place of divine proximity and worship.
