Bible Connections 5: Old Testament Needed

The apostles did not preach a new religion with a Jewish appendix. They preached Jesus out of Israel's Scriptures, because that is where the material was.
Luke has the risen Jesus open the Scriptures and explain what was written about him in Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms. Not a fresh revelation - an explanation of an old one.
That is how the New Testament works throughout. Its writers articulate their theology using the Old Testament. Strip it out and what is left is not a simpler gospel, it is an unintelligible one.

If you cannot read the Old Testament, you cannot follow the apostles' argument. You can only take their conclusions on trust.
