Two Hebrew Bibles Before Jesus

Around two centuries before Jesus, Jewish scholars translated the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek. That translation is the Septuagint, and it raises a question worth following.
Whoever translated it was working from a Hebrew manuscript. Which one?
The evidence: "there are enough places in the Septuagint that couldn't possibly derive from the Masoretic Text to inform scholars, 'Okay, whatever text they used a couple centuries before Jesus, it wasn't the Masoretic Text.' It was something almost identical, but there are places where it's obviously different, so there had to be at least two versions of the Hebrew Bible in existence in the intertestamental period."
Almost identical - and obviously different in places. Which means the Bible Jesus' contemporaries read did not come in exactly one edition.
