Angelic Transgression Against Council

The Lord's unmatched holiness is declared in “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?” (Exodus 15:11). This ancient hymn boldly proclaims that no other being, whether divine or angelic, can compare to the Most High. This rhetorical question serves as an emphatic statement of God's utter uniqueness and supremacy. It highlights His transcendent nature, setting Him apart from all creation, including the heavenly host who serve Him. His deeds are not merely great; they are glorious and awesome, performed with a power that astounds and inspires wonder.
In the ancient Near East, the concept of a divine council was widespread, with gods presiding over gatherings and making decrees. Similarly, the Old Testament alludes to God presiding over a heavenly council, a divine assembly where significant decisions are made concerning the cosmos and humanity (Psalm 82:1; Job 1:6). When rebellious angels transgressed, their sin was not merely an individual act of defiance against God, but a profound betrayal of this divine council.
