Angel with Key to the Abyss

"And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit" (Revelation 9:1). It's tempting to assume this "star" is a rebellious, fallen being unlocking chaos on its own terms. But the text says he was "given" the key - a divine commission, not a seizure of power. Revelation 20:1 uses the exact same language for an angel holding the same key, and that angel is unambiguously doing God's work, locking Satan away. The parallel suggests this messenger in chapter 9 may be the same kind of figure: not a rebel unleashing evil, but a commissioned gatekeeper carrying out God's ordained judgment on schedule.
This matters because even the release of terrifying forces in Revelation isn't chaos winning - it's judgment proceeding exactly on God's timetable, administered by his own appointed messenger.
