Acts Theology 77: Jesus: Daniel'S Son Of Man Enthroned

Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, "gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. And he said, 'Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.'" This vision is pivotal, identifying Jesus squarely with the 'Son of Man' figure from Daniel 7, who receives everlasting dominion and authority.
In Daniel 7, the Son of Man comes 'with the clouds of heaven' to the Ancient of Days to receive his kingdom. Stephen's vision, however, places Jesus (the Son of Man) already 'standing at the right hand of God.' This signifies that the promised reign of the Son of Man is not a distant future event, but has already begun. Jesus' resurrection and ascension to God's right hand inaugurated His kingship, demonstrating that the kingdom of God is no longer merely an eschatological hope but a present reality, impacting current events and the spiritual warfare against hostile divine authorities.
This immediate enthronement of Jesus as the Son of Man provides profound encouragement and a current understanding of Christ's authority. It means that regardless of present difficulties or persecution, Christ is actively reigning, and His kingdom is advancing. For believers, this assurance means we are part of a kingdom already victorious, and our earthly struggles are viewed through the lens of a reigning King who has already conquered the principalities and powers. This gives purpose and hope to our present obedience and witness.
