Acts Theology 68: God Is The Restrainer

Concerning the "restrainer" in 2 Thessalonians 2:6-7, the text speaks of "he who now restrains." While common interpretations suggest the Holy Spirit, the Church, or even the archangel Michael, a deeper examination reveals that God Himself is the ultimate restrainer.
This perspective posits that God is holding back final judgment and the eschatological Day of the Lord. His purpose in doing so is to allow for the "fullness of the Gentiles" to be brought into the fold. This delay ensures that the full number of God's children from among the nations is gathered, setting the stage for the eventual judgment of the nations and the full establishment of His global kingdom.
