Acts Theology 63: Repentance, Baptism, And The Spirit

Peter's instruction in "Acts 2:38," "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit," is a foundational statement on conversion.
This verse is not solely about water baptism, nor exclusively Spirit baptism, but an interconnected encounter that begins with repentance. Repentance, a turning away from sin and toward God, is the prerequisite. Baptism, in this context, functions as a public sign and testimony of a prior spiritual reality—the cleansing from sin and the reception of a new heart and the Holy Spirit. For believers today, this passage underscores the essential order and meaning of these spiritual realities.
