Acts Theology 110: Apollos Corrected By Laypersons

In "Acts 18:24-25," we meet Apollos, a man described as "eloquent...competent in the Scriptures...instructed in the way of the Lord...though he knew only the baptism of John." While Apollos fervently taught about Jesus, Priscilla and Aquila discerned gaps in his understanding.
This passage highlights that even gifted and fervent individuals like Apollos can have incomplete understanding. Priscilla and Aquila, not apostles, took it upon themselves to "explain to him the way of God more accurately" (Acts 18:26). Their willingness to engage in careful, personal instruction ensured Apollos's message was complete and accurate, demonstrating that theological correction and growth are not solely the domain of formally designated leaders.
