Acts Theology 2: Jerusalem and Presence

"He ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father..." This command kept the disciples in Jerusalem until the promised Spirit was given. Jerusalem is the theological starting point for the mission to reclaim the nations because, in the Old Testament, it was the place where the glory and presence of God dwelt.
Deuteronomy 12:5 speaks of the place the Lord would choose to put His name and habitation. Ezekiel 37:26-28 promises God’s sanctuary and dwelling among His restored people. Thus, Jerusalem, the domain of God, served as a symbolic launching point, telegraphing that the God who owns Jerusalem by rightful claim would initiate the reclamation of all other nations. The command not to leave Jerusalem had deeper layers of importance than merely waiting for a future event.
The mission of reclaiming the nations begins from the city associated with God's dwelling. This highlights that Acts is not just a random travel history, but a divinely organized movement from God's sacred center toward the nations.
